Boomerangs
What was the purpose of the activity?
The purpose of this activity was to get a better understanding of the Australian culture. Boomerangs are a major part of their culture and have a lot of meaning.
What was the meaning of the designs on my boomerang?
Right in the middle, there was yellow which in my mind represented the sun. And then there was green which represented the greenery on earth (trees, grass, vegetables). And blue, the ocean or water which is one of the most important things on earth. There was also blacks and whites which just symbolised light and dark, I guess. There was a few korus on there which I thought would be a good way to fill in a blank space. The white and red dots were just a pattern I really liked and gave my boomerang the pop it needed.
What went well when painting my boomerang?
I think the dots worked out really well. It gave it that 'aboriginal dot art' look found on most boomerangs. Overall, I think my boomerang looks pretty good. It flew when we threw it, but sadly... it didn't come back.
