Drama - 2018 - Musicals

The Time Warp
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show"

We have been discovering musicals for the past few weeks in our class. We are learning The Time Warp from the movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I really like doing the dance to it, it's fun. We've learned the main dance so far, we are also making funny glasses and masks to wear for the performance we are doing in front of the year sevens, eights, and nines soon. Here is a link to the song.

Greased Lightning
"Grease"

A weird musical I know is Greased Lighting from the movie Grease. I think it's weird because of the dances they do, they are grown men but the dances they do are more feminine. By feminine, I mean compared to haka it's very quiet and gentle, slow paced. But haka is really loud and they use a lot of body percussion. I like the song and I've seen the movie a few times when I was little.
Here is a link to the song.

Maths - 2018 - An Infographic That Will Blow Your Mind!

An Infographic That Will Blow Your Mind!

Intro:

Hey, it's Paige from 9AK, I'm back! Today I'm going to be telling you about the infographic I've been making with my group in maths. We talked about Percentages, Decimals, and Fractions.

D.L.O - Digital Learning Object:
You can find my infographic here.

Reflection:
Making this infographic was really frustrating to do because I couldn't share it with my group so we had to do things exactly the same on our own one. I might float around on other sites other groups used to see if anything's better. To improve on my infographic, I might use a different website or template. Next time I make an infographic I might do more on each slide, or make it pop even more. I might make more slides about different things to really challenge myself. I learned a lot about Percentages, Decimals, and Fractions while making it. It was also really fun to make this infographic with my group.

Sources/References:
The site I used for my infographic was Venngage. I recommend Venngage because it is a very good site to use for presentations. We gathered our information from Mathisfun

Questions:

If you saw our infographic, is there anything we can improve on?
Have you ever made an infographic on Venngage?
Is there any other site like Venngage you recommend?
Would you use Venngage?
Any questions for me?

Science - 2018 - Filtering Muddy Water

Filtering Muddy Water

The first picture is of what we had and what we got. The second picture is of how we set it up. We set it up by getting a beaker, putting a cloth over it and dumping the gross muddy water in, to catch the mud and sticks. We poured the muddy water we got from it into the top funnel with filter paper in it, and it dripped through to the bottom one, also with a filter paper. It went into the conical flask containing clean-ish water.

English 2018 - Improving Our Writing Skills - Running

Running

Three of us. That was all that was left. Only we would survive to see the morning. We knew something we shouldn't know. There was once six of us, six teenagers running for our lives. We didn't know each other, but we needed to work together. If not, we'd struggle. And struggling is not the best thing in this kind of life-threatening situation. We needed to get along even if one was extremely infuriating. And so we did.

We made it to an abandoned warehouse. Or so we thought. We walked inside and found an extra long hallway with paintings on either side all the way down. We ran further.

"Wait!" We stopped.

"Look at the paintings."

I looked a painting that caught my eye, or should I say I caught its eye. They moved! I swear they moved!

"What the heck? The eyes moved." I said.

I looked at other painting down the hall and none of them were moving. I stepped forward and saw them move again. Jessie stepped up to a painting and looked into the painting's eye.

"Get down..." He mumbled.

"What-"

"GET DOWN!" He screamed.

I hit the deck and all of the painting's eyes started swiveling all over the place. A huge bang erupted at the door. The paintings eyes were all glowing red, looking like they were about to explode. The door behind us burst open. A group of FBI agents ran towards us. We jolted up and sprinted as fast as we could.

"STOP RIGHT THERE!" One of the guys said, we stopped at the door at the end of the hallway.

"OPEN THE DOOR!" Emily screamed. Jessie stood back and kicked the door wide open.

We ran out of the building and a helicopter was in front of us.

"JUMP IN!" A girl said.

"A-Aliyah?!" I screamed.

"GET IN!" She screamed.

Emily, Jessie and I leaped into the helicopter and they took off. Aliyah was flying the helicopter, Dylan and Jacob were sitting in the back.

"We thought you guys were dead!" Jessie screamed.

""So did we, we thought they got you guys." Jacob said.

"Thank god we're together again." Dylan said. He smiled.

We were together again and safe...

For now.

Science - 2018 - Dilutions from a Dissolved Crystal

Dilutions from a Dissolved Crystal

The first concentrated test tube was the one we dropped the crystal in which also had 10mls of water. The other five had 5mls of water. We took 5mls out of the first one, put it in the second one. We took 5mls out of the second one and put it in the third one and so on and so forth.

The first test tube is the most concentrated solution. The last one is the most diluted solution.

Be Assertive - Health 2018

Strategies For Being Assertive

Know your priorities
You need to focus on what's important to you, your priorities. Don't get caught up on the little things.

Eye Contact
You need to keep eye contact if it's difficult, look at their forehead or nose.

Body Language
You need to stand up straight and keep your posture. Don't slouch.

Voice
You need to speak up and use your voice, be loud, be heard.
"I" Statements (e.g I feel)
You need to use "I" statements, don't use "you". Say something like 'I understand', or 'I know how you feel', be loud but don't be aggressive. Know the difference.

Small Victories
Be confident, feel good about yourself, and definitely stand up for yourself.

Health 2018 - Te Whare Tapawha

Te Whare Tapawha

Making our whare I participated by helping fold pieces of paper, holding up the walls and roof while they were being taped, and shaping it to look like a whare.

If a challenge/problem came our way we figured it out together and coped by fixing it with another piece of paper.

Te Whare Tapa Wha is a whare with four sides, Taha Tinana, Taha Hinengaro, Taha Whanau and Taha Wairua.
