Art Level 2 - Personal Description

Art 2021 - Personal Description

In art right now, we are working on our 2.1 internal. For three different artworks (traditional, contemporary, and an artist from Aotearoa) we had to examine the artworks and write personal descriptions as if we were describing the artworks to someone who was blind. We also had to draw quick thumbnail sketches. Below is the traditional artist's artwork, the personal description I wrote along with its thumbnail.

Our task today is to post one of our personal descriptions and comment on one of our peer's personal descriptions which they have also posted on their blog.

Traditional Artwork: Crookhey Hall - Leonora Carrington

Personal Description:

The artwork Crookhey Hall by Leonora Carrington has a gloomier, darker shade to it. The colours are not extremely vibrant. They have a slight grey hue. The colours are mainly cool tones. Greens mostly. There are people, spirits (ghosts), and animals in the image. In the background there is a mansion with spirits floating around the roof, to the left of the mansion, there is a pond with even more spirits in the water. Surrounding the pond there are trees. Leading from the front door of the house, a dirt path winds through the artwork extending to the edge, most likely carrying on further. On each side of the path, there are small green shrubs. Other than the path, everything else is grass. The sky at the top of the artwork is grey. At the bottom right, there are more green shrubs, to the top right there are grassy hills seen behind more trees. The focus point in this artwork is the white spirit in the bottom in a running motion. The spirit is one of the biggest since it is in the foreground and also the whitest spirit which draws your eye first. The others are more grey.

Thumbnail Sketch:

(I apologise for the thumbnail sketch being rotated, I'm not sure how to rotate it on blogger since it's fine on google slides)
