Blog Post 1 - Level 3 Art (Kaupapa + Brainstorm)

 Kaupapa for Art Study

My kaupapa for this year is going to be the Seven Deadly Sins (pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, sloth, and wrath). I've chosen this theme because I am very interested in how these 'sins' may affect peoples life if they were to give into them. I am not actually religious and I understand that the seven deadly sins stem from Christianity- this, however, will not factor into my work. I will also mention that I am not basing my art off of the anime named 'Seven Deadly Sins'. My art this year will revolve around the modern forms of these 'sins'. Eg, how these sins show themselves in the modern world and how they can change the mindsets of different people.

My brainstorm on the seven deadly sins (possible ideas for paintings):

Art Level 2 - Panel 2 Plan

Art Portfolio - Panel 2

For art, we were required to fill out this sheet of paper below to plan what we were going to do on our second panel. The layout is very rough so it may not look exactly like that when I am finished. I have fallen behind a bit, I'll be honest, but I am going to spend a lot of time over the holidays and after school working on my art.

Connections - English Infographic

 CONNECTIONS

In English, we are learning about connections (how each of the texts relates to the overarching theme which is personhood and what it means to be a person). The five ideas below are the underlying themes in the texts that I had noticed. There are many more, but to me, these are the most significant. Soon, we are going to write an essay based on connections so I will need to go further into depth for these ideas and maybe find a few more.

The four texts I've chosen:

  • Blade Runner 2049, by Denis Villeneuve
  • Ex Machina, by Alex Garland
  • Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, by Kenneth Branagh
  • Be Right Back, Black Mirror S2 E1 by Owen Harris
